Condolences

Condolence From: Rosalind Britton
Condolence: I was so sad to learn of both Rosie and Basil's passing last year. I only realised that they might not be with us anymore when I didn't receive a Xmas card. They were wonderful friends to my Mother (Margaret Vatcher) from childhood as Rosie and my Mother were neighbours growing up on the battery in the St John's harbour in the 1920-30s. I too have fond memories from our visits to Newfoundland - they were such a lovely couple and with such a large family! I am glad that they are now at peace and I am sure that as a family you will all miss them enormously. I feel that I have lost almost my last link to Newfoundland with their passing but my memory of them will be with me forever.

Condolence From: Clayton and Ruth Rice
Condolence: To Rosie and the entire Vokey family. We are sad to hear of Bas's passing. He certainly lived a good long life. During our few visits to their home, both at Cloverbrae Crescent and at Meadow Creek Retirement Home he shared some highlights with us, from his being the first Santa at Bowerings, some of his travels with Rosie, and his fly tying hobby. Clayton, like many others, was the recipient of some of his flies. He is also remembered for his faithful ministry to Elim's 50+ group for many years as well as to Friday Night Hymn Sings at Kelly's Brook Apartments and the once a month Sunday evening church service there. The residents there looked forward to these meetings and only eternity will reveal the positive outcomes. He recommended that Clayton take over 50+ after he felt to conclude his ministry which Clayton did for seventeen years. This ministry continues today and residents from Kelly's Brook continue to attend. We also remember his solos at Elim and his role playing in one of Elim's successful Christmas cantata's held at the Arts and Culture Center. Rosie fully supported him in these ministries. He has been missed and will continue to be missed and remembered by us. Love to you all and especially to Rosie.

Condolence: To the Vokey Family: So sorry to read of Bas's passing. He and Rosie were great friends of my parents Ed and Dot Goff. Both our fathers worked at TCA and later Air Canada and there were many times that were together for parties. I can remember many visits to your home and the many times that they visited ours in Gander and St. John's. Be assured that Bas is in Heaven now showing everyone how to tie a fly and cast a line. He and Dad and Steve Moriarity, John Moriarity, Tom Godden and more old TCA persons are reminising about the early days of the airline.(I could name many more but space will not allow.) RIP Basil.

Condolence: So sorry to hear of "Uncle Basil's" passing. It was truly my pleasure to have known him. He did a great job tying salmon and trout flies and I always enjoyed receiving a few, with the note, "tight lines". May you find comfort in the many memories from a long life, well lived. He will be missed, but remembered, with affection. God bless.
