Obituary for Doris Cooper (Boden)

Passed with the same quiet dignity with which she lived, Lucy ‘Doris’ Cooper (Boden) age 97. Left to remember are her daughter Gillian (Glenn Normore) and granddaughters Katie and Emma, her son David (Jenny Harris), her sisters Jean Maunder (Robert - deceased) and Ivy Moores (John), and her brother Robert Boden (Carol). Her loving husband James died in 1993. Also fondly remembering her are lifelong friend Lois Downton, sister-in-law Tillie Cooper, cousin Major Annette Vardy and Kelly Ralph, her community health nurse and friend. She will also be remembered by other friends and extended family.
Doris grew up in St. John’s where, as the the eldest of her family, she helped her father take care of her younger siblings when her mother died at an early age. She was a talented seamstress and was always fashionably dressed often in clothing she made for herself. She loved plants and had an exceptional talent for growing African violets. Doris was a very intelligent woman with an exceptional memory. She could recall names, dates and events with accuracy up to the end of her life. She had vivid memories of events in her lifetime like the K. of C. fire and even spoke of seeing the Hindenburg fly over St. John’s. Doris was known as an individual who never complained in spite of challenges along the way. She felt that in life you just get on with it!
