Condolence: Verena was such a kind soul. Even first meeting her, it was evident what an intelligent individual she was, and it was always interesting to hear of what a fascinating life she lead. She had unmatched perseverance, and was incredibly head-strong. I'll never forget her stubborness, and of course her great sense of humor and the way she would roll her eyes at us nursing staff when we'd make her laugh. Though I am glad she is finally at peace, her spirit will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her wonderful friends and family, and of course the other nursing and support staff at Pleasantview Towers who took such good care of her.

Condolence: I was sorry to learn that Verena has passed away. We worked together some years ago on a university-wide committee, and I appreciated the perspective and common sense she brought to the work. I always enjoyed the opportunity to chat when I would see her around campus. Sincere condolences to her friends and family.

Condolence: To the Gosse families, I first met Verena as a patient in the Sunshine Camp in 1963 and we stayed friends ever since. She was a gentle woman with an opinion on anything that she thought might make us smile. Her love of life was shown by her circle of friends and family. Celebrate her life and cherish all the good memories you have of her. She will be missed by all who knew her. I have truly lost a very memorable friend. Keep her memory in your hearts and she will be with you always. Rest in peace Verens. Teresa Maloney Laite Grand Falls-Windsor

Condolence: Verena was a lady in every respect and with such a mild demeanour that one could not help but gravitate towards her. Like Verena, I was afflicted with polio in the 50's as a child and befriended Verena from rehabilitation days. As we grew into adults we polios bonded and many of us kept in touch. There was a bunch of we females who met for birthdays and Christmas and we called it our "hen parties"...Verena was a very active hen in our circle up to about 18 months or so ago. In recent years friends Ruby, Jane, Doris & I met at Verena's apartment in Tiffany Towers to make it easier on Verena. She looked so much forward to our gatherings and was it heart warming to see how she appreciated these occasions at her place to use her finest china and set the perfect table! During these times as "post" polios we would reminisce our challenging health journeys, recall old friends and rehab times, and play "remember when"! In the end, we would always arrive at how well we did in the end.....and that life was still wonderful. However, in the end it was difficult to watch Verena suffer and struggle with her increasing limitations. Verena's cousin Florence, has been an angel in every respect to seeing that Verena needs were met over the years and Florence my deepest sympathy is extended to you and the extended Gosse family. Verena, go fly with the angels as we release you from pain to join your loving Mom and Dad. You will always be our hero....and we will remember you at the next "hen party".

Condolence: Florence, please know you have been in our thoughts constantly and extend sincerest sympathy on your loss of Verena. You were so much more than cousins to each other. St. Francis of Assisi said it best for both of you, "it is in giving, that we receive" and Verena's life was truly a gift and we are all better off for knowing her. Rest in peace, dear Verena.
