Collins, Douglas George – It is with heavy hearts that we sadly announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Douglas George Collins at the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at the age of 81. Doug was predeceased by his parents Robert & Elizabeth; brothers: Paul, Bob, and Ches; and sisters Edie Alcock, Lucy Osmond, Betty Thompson, Beatrice Lewis and Rachel Bastow. Doug leaves to mourn with wonderful lifelong memories his beloved wife of 59 years Vera; sons: Doug and Steve (Stephanie); and daughter Kim Evans (Paul); Doug’s grandchildren: Amy Thorne (great-grandson Harry), Julia, Mark, and Allison Collins and Daniel Evans will forever remember their Pop and his unconditional love for them. They will especially remember all the pocket candies. Doug’s life was filled with the presence of many special nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours who have always been a huge support to the family. The family would like to send special thanks to their friends and neighbours on Gisbourne Street, their many friends from First United Church, St. Luke’s Home and Dr. Essaji and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl, on Sunday and Monday, August 20th & 21st, from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm. Memorial service will be held at First United Church on Tuesday, August 22nd, at 2:00pm. Interment to follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
