EWING, F. Millar – Mr. F. Millar Ewing (August 10th 1929 - September 6th, 2017) of St. John's Newfoundland has 'Gone Home'. He has joined his beloved wife Minnie (Trickett) 1933-1988, his sister Phyllis Pike, and friend Eric Larkin. Leaving to mourn his son Geoff (Yvonne) his daughter Karen (Carol), his grandchildren Grayson, Scott, Kate, Rachel and Marlee and his partner in life, Heather Anderson. Millar leaves many beloved nieces and nephews to mourn his passing as well as many friends, including Elsie Larkin. Millar is fondly remembered by Grayson's mother, Iris and Scott's mother Paula. Millar Ewing was a gentle man who touched many lives through his volunteer work and his capacity to give to others. He retired from Memorial University's Department of University Works in 1993. Prior to this he worked with the Newfoundland Division of the Canadian Red Cross setting up the blood program and serving as Commissioner from 1962-1966. Retirement brought new challenges for Millar and he took this time to hone his woodworking skills, creating beautifully crafted and finished woodcraft for family and friends and for charity. Millars' volunteer and community service spanned his entire life, and he will be remembered with great appreciation all the great things he was able to accomplish with his quiet determination. He worked with the Bowring Park Foundation in the creation of the amphitheater, the Pippy Park Commission, St Luke's Home, The Salvation Army Advisory Committee, the Newfoundland Safety Council, the Quidi-Vidi, and Renne's River Project, the 3F group, the Red Cross, the Cardiac Rehab group and many years of work as Warden, and Serviceman for St Mary's Anglican Church and the Scouting movement. Millar received the Order of the Red Cross for exceptional service and the Silver Wolf, the highest award conferred to a civilian in Scouting for service of the most exceptional character of National significance. Of late he was awarded the Caring Canadian Award by the Governor General of Canada. Millar's family is grateful to the staff at Tiffany Village for the exceptional care Millar received there. Also the staff at the Congestive Heart Clinic who worked tirelessly with Millar to ensure he enjoyed a healthy life. Your work with Dad was greatly appreciated. A special thank you is extended to Mac Butt who ensured that Millar's transition to Tiffany was an easy one, we are forever grateful. Millar was a gentle man of exceptional character and integrity and a man of great faith. His presence will be dearly missed. Millar Ewing has most certainly 'Gone Home'. Family and friends will gather at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, on Saturday September 9th and Sunday September 10th between the hours of 2-4 and 7-9pm. Service will be held at The Anglican Church of St. Mary The Virgin, Craigmillar Avenue, St. John's, Newfoundland, on Monday September 11th, 2017 at 11:00am with internment to follow at The Anglican Cemetery Forest Road, St. John's. In lieu of flowers donations will be graciously accepted by St Mary's Anglican Church, or a charity of your choosing.
