Folkes, Kenneth Wilfred – August 8, 1916 – November 11, 2017. Passed peacefully away at Hillcrest Estates on November 11, 2017. Predeceased by wife of 70 years, Edna (2009), special friend Florence Hillier (2015), and daughter-in-law Ivy (1992). Leaving to mourn daughter, Douglass Ann (Jerry) Crookshanks; sons, Warren (Myra), Wayne, & Randy (Marilyn); seven grandchildren: Paul Crookshanks (Lana), Heather Noseworthy (Steve), Susan Cormier (Jeff), Michelle Folkes Greening (Ron), Danielle MacDougall (Chris), Kent Folkes (Stephanie), and Mark Folkes (Chris); twelve great-grandchildren; sister Shirley Critch, Grand Falls; brother Bill (Bonnie), Grand Falls; numerous nieces and nephews; and his extended “ family” at Hillcrest Estates. While at Hillcrest, Wilf enjoyed “stirring the pot” with fellow residents and staff.
The family extends their appreciation to the exceptional staff at Hillcrest Estates for their continued care and support, especially over the past few weeks. Also, special thanks to Father Darrell Critch who offered much comfort and inspiration during the past few years.
Wilf was an honorary life-time member of the Masonic Avalon Lodge and the St. John’s Mazol Shriners. Wilf retired from CN Railway in 1980 and enjoyed his retirement years immensely, spending many summers travelling in his motor home to Maine and, later, summers in Green’s Harbour, Trinity Bay. Family will be receiving visitors at Barrett’s Funeral Home, Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl on Monday, November 13/2017 from 7-9 pm, Tuesday, November 14, 2017 from 2-4 pm and 6-9 pm. Funeral service to take place from Barrett’s Chapel, Mount Pearl, on Wednesday, 15 November 2017 at 11 am. Inurnment at Forest Road Columbarium, Anglican Cemetery, St. John’s.
