Condolence From: Lisa and Donald Hurd
Condolence: What more can we say that hasn’t already been said? Phillip was so many things to so many people in so many facets of his life. But first and foremost he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. In the few hours that he had outside of his professional life at CBC he managed to squeeze in an abundance of other roles: actor, theatre director, lighting designer, sound director, President of the St. John’s Players to name just a few. All of these roles he did with commitment, grace, humour and humility. He was not content with doing just 99% - it had to be 100+%. I had the joy of performing with Phillip in many plays over a span of 25 years and it really was a joy. Although he was very serious about every role he undertook, the cast always had a lot of fun in rehearsals. Phillip was also an invaluable member of the ‘Whodunnit Dinner Theatre’ (a humorous murder mystery dinner theatre company owned by Donald and me, providing entertainment at conferences and other events). Phillip, you will be sorely missed by so many people in so many avenues of life, but none more than as a dear friend. Ann and family, we send you our loving thoughts and condolences. Lisa and Donald Hurd

Some years back, I had the pleasure of being involved with St. John's Players September In The Rain. of which Philip was the star, I think of him (and always will) every time I hear the song. Condolence From: Ann Murphy
Condolence: Dear Ann and family, I had the pleasure of working for and with Philip for almost a decade. He was a compassionate leader, an excellent editor, a knowledgeable and caring mentor, and a really fun guy. I was sorry to hear he hadn’t been well over the past few years. I just missed talking to him at John Calver’s Funeral; now I regret not making more of an effort to reconnect with him. I am so sorry for your loss.

Condolence: John Murphy summed up my feelings about Phillip so well that all I can say is that he will be missed - by so many. He was an excellent editor and mentor at the CBC. And a terrific actor. When we together during the 1980's, Phillip taught me to cook! He was a master chef - perhaps few people knew that. One funny memory: Philip liked to make home-made green pea soup from scratch. One Saturday, while cooking in our kitchen on Gower Street, his pot was almost overflowing when Phillip decided to put an electric mixer into the pot. We were cleaning pea soup off the ceilings and walls for days!! I have many fond memories of Phillip's achievements, both professional and personal. It is sad to lose him but good to know that his physical suffering is over. He is now at peace and in God's Light.

Condolence: Dear Ann and Family We're thinking of you as we say goodbye to a man who clearly enjoyed the art of living and always wanted to include the rest of us in his enjoyment. Whether it was the satisfaction of the job we did, or a chorus of the Hippopotamus Song Phillip shared generously with us all and we'll miss him,

Condolence: So often, in messages of condolences, we say "No Words". In this instance, it's "So Many Words". Here goes: Amazing news editor; great reporter, much better than he was usually given credit for; a master of the English language, and to go with that a fine practitioner of the Cryptic Crossword, in pen; a top class teacher of the art and craft of radio. In the theatre: actor, director, producer, exceptional lighting director, sound designer and presenter. A man who single-handedly it seemed kept the St. John's Players on its feet for years. There are more words, many more. But for me perhaps the two most important are friend and leader, even sometimes on the golf course. I will be compiling more 'words' for the celebration next month ! R.I.P.

But we will keep him in our hearts always, and in doing so he will be never be far away. Kailil Gibran once wrote..."When you are sorrowful, look again in your heart, and you will see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight". Safe journey Phillip~

Condolence From: John and Magda Moyes
Condolence: Philip Daniel was a dear friend and wonderful, creative leader for the St. John's Players, who he ran almost single-handedly for many years. Actor, director, soundman and lighting designer, Philip could do it all, and he did! His talent was generously shared with the theatre community at large, not to mention the more than 15 years we enjoyed working in Lisa and Donald Hurd's, Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre, together. Fate is a cruel taskmaster to cut short Philip's well earned retirement with Ann and his family. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Ann with treasured memories of happy days we all shared together. With love and friendship, John and Magda Moyes and family

Condolence From: Fred Hawksley
Condolence: Our sadness at Philip's passing is met with resonant memories of working with him as Philip created his Sergeant in 'Killed...', Carl in 'Mornings at 7', Jack in 'September in the Rain', and as Warnie Lewis in 'Shadowlands'. I was so proud to work with Philip and be on stage with him hoping to measure up to his work. Remember him as Warnie, my 'brother' in Shadowlands. Such impeccable timing, and as rich a communicator as I've seen, so neatly underplayed, underscored by his dedication, skills and abilities as a theatre artist. Thank you Philip for these memories and shared times. So many of us have such memories of you then and we treasure them now as they help us through our sadness at your loss. "That's the deal".Our sincere condolences to Anne and family and friends.

Condolence: Ann, I didn't know Phillip well, but well enough to get a true sense of the kind hearted, gentle man he was. The best Santa I've ever seen, he truly enjoyed every minute of it, making each child feel special and heard. From what you've told me, he was a pretty great husband and Father as well. And maker of the BEST seafood chowder I have ever tasted! I hope you find comfort in your many happy times together. From all of your Inmarsat girls, we love you and are thinking of you Ann. xo
