Sydney, as he was known to those who were close to him, was born on October 3rd, 1933 in Staffordshire, England. Where as a boy he had to stand in bread lines during WW II and as a youth developed a love for Football. His love for football would take him to play on and Captain many championship teams.
Sydney took on the career path of a pipefitter which lead him to serve aboard the M.V Port Jackson and the SS Nova Scotia which sailed from Liverpool, St John’s, Halifax and Boston. It was aboard the SS Nova Scotia that he met the love of his life, Victoria Sara Ruth (nee. Hart) of St. John’s. They married September 20, 1958 in Darlington, England.
Upon moving to St. John’s, Sydney took up employment with Hughley’s and worked on many buildings and homes in St. John’s, after many years of working in his chosen field, Syd took on the role as an instructor at the Burin Vocational School, moving his family to St. Lawrence and later to Marystown. In 1977 Sydney accepted the role as a trainer with Syncrude Canada Ltd. and relocated his family to Fort McMurray, AB. He retired as Extraction Contract Coordinator in October 1999. In 2007 Sydney and Victoria relocated backed to St. John’s where he enjoyed learning and sharing the history of Newfoundland.
Sydney was active in various community events where ever he lived at the time and was a coach and mentor to many a sports team. He enjoyed gardening with Victoria and building birdhouses and carving for his Children.

The singing of a song or the whistling of a tune and his hardy laugh will be missing from the rooms that he once occupied, and yet the legacy of the love he had for his God, his Wife and his Children and Grand and Great Grand Children is what will ever be with us.
Thanks Dad.
There will be no service as was his request, so take that time and spend it with someone you love. A Family Celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
