Obituary for Douglas Dwyer

Peacefully passed at home on Monday, June 18, 2018, Doug Dwyer age 86 years. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Dora (Kennell) Dwyer; sister Jessie (Dwyer) Shaw; brothers Angus, John, and William J. Dwyer. Lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years Olive (Morgan) Dwyer; three daughters: Lynn (Gerard Farrell), Cathy (Jeff Gosse), and Jill (Steve Bettles); Four loving grandchildren: Julia and Michael Farrell, Olivia and Alexander Bettles; Sisters-in-law Phyllis and Shirley Dwyer; Nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Predeceased by his beloved setters Iris, Jay and Rielly, Doug was an avid outdoors enthusiast enjoying twelve-hour days on the barrens of Central and the Avalon NL, with a boil-up by “the babbling brook”. Remembered by his friends and colleagues of CN, Terra Nova Telecommunications and Newfoundland Telephone, and through his volunteer service to Civil Air Search and Rescue (Casera) at Gander and St. John’s. The family extends sincere appreciation to his nurse Penny, and Michelle, Sharon and Kelly of Rosemore, for their outstanding care during his last days, and attending physicians and staff of Eastern Health. Cremation has taken place. Visitation at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave Friday June 22, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral in thankful celebration of Doug’s life will take place at Wesley United Church on Saturday June 23, 2018 at 2pm. Interment to take place at a later date at Coley’s Point, NL. Donations in Doug’s memory may be forwarded to VOWR or a charity of choice. “To Hear the Brook and Feel the Gentle Breeze.”
