Obituary for Douglas David ""Pop"" Goodyear

Douglas David Goodyear (Pop)

Passed away peacefully a day before his 80th birthday at the Health Sciences Centre surrounded by his loving family. Born in St. John’s, September 3rd, 1938, his love of woodworking and the shed was only surpassed by his love for his family. A longtime employee of National Cash Register (NCR), he was a master at fixing everything and Heaven has gained a superior handyman and an endless supply of birdhouses. Predeceased by parents, Elsie and Valentine, and brothers Tom (Jess) and Albert. Left to mourn are his wife Vi, daughters Gina (Junior), Vickie (Jeff), Venessa (Rob), granddaughter Dr. Kylie Goodyear, sister Vic (Bill), brother Bill (Lorna), grand-pets (Luna, Odessa, Sophie, Parker and Marley) along with many other friends and relatives. His quirky sense of humour and generous nature are now replaced with cherished memories and silly stories. A sincere thank you to the staff at the Health Sciences Centre and St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital for their support over the past twelve months. Visitation will take place between 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Barrett’s Funeral Home, Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl. There will be no funeral service and cremation has taken place at Doug’s request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Daffodil Place. Please visit www.barretts.ca to sign the memorial guest book.
