Gola Mildred Blanche Roberts (Andrews)
ROBERTS, Gola Mildred Blanche (nee Andrews), M.N., B.N., R.N.
It is with heavy hearts that Gola’s family announces her peaceful passing at the Health Sciences Centre on January 18, 2019 at the age of 64, surrounded by her loved ones.
Predeceased by her husband Jim, parents Ezra and Dorothy Andrews, grandparents Nathan and Gertrude Andrews, Maria and Clement Snow, brother-in-law Harold Newhook, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Leaving to mourn and to carry on her torch, are her son James Roberts (Heather), daughter Kimberly Ajbaili (Ali), two precious grandsons Elias and Adam Ajbaili, sister Daphne Newhook (nee Andrews), treasured Aunt Marina Osborne, stepmother-in-law Gladys Roberts, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and a multitude of cousins, colleagues, and friends.
Many thanks to the medical and nursing staff of the ICU and 4 South B units, Dr. Donald and Sheila Walsh, brother-in-law Ronald Roberts, and all those who provided food, support, and care during Gola’s illness.
Born in Newtown, Bonavista Bay North, Newfoundland, Gola was a revered nurse and nursing instructor, an active and vital member of Gower Street United Church’s Executive Board, wonderful supporter of the Gower Youth Band/Gower Community Band, and Chair of the Gower Senior’s Club. Her volunteer community outreach and outpouring of unconditional love for others, will be an indelible mark that defines her legacy.
Visitation will take place at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, Monday January 21 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, 7:00 – 9:00 pm, and Tuesday January 22, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, and 7:00 – 9:00 pm. A celebration of her life will be held from Gower Street United Church on Wednesday January 23, 2019 at 2:00 pm, with cremation to follow and inurnment to take place at a later date.
As many are aware, Gola was a true advocate of education and family values. Thus, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “Daphne Newhook IN TRUST” for the educational pursuits of Gola’s present and future grandchildren.

You raise me up to walk on stormy seas
I am strong when I am on your shoulders
You raise me up to more than I can be.”
